Five things you should know about ribose

Autumn is a busy time here at Bioenergy Life Science. We are gearing up for some major industry events, preparing to announce something new for anyone interested in how ribose can help with energy maintenance and muscle recovery, and our Team Ribose athletes are stepping up their training in anticipation of the Olympics and other world games.

Now is a good time to reflect on five things we’d like you to know about ribose, whether you are a food and beverage formulator who is interested in including Bioenergy Ribose in your products, an athlete looking to add ribose to your training arsenal, or simply someone who wants to understand how ribose might be able to satisfy your energy needs.

1. Ribose is natural. Every cell in our body makes ribose. Ribose is the rate-limiting compound in the production of energy compounds called Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP), which are like fuel for our cells. ATP provides us with the energy to run our bodies. It releases energy much like burning wood releases heat (energy) as its carbon bonds break. Our bodies are great at recycling. Each ATP molecule in our bodies gets used up and regenerated about 10,000 times a day.

2. Supplementing with ribose may help you reach your fitness goals. If your body is rapidly using your stores of ATP (for instance when you go for a jog or shovel snow) and it doesn’t have enough ribose on hand to replenish its energy compounds, then it’s got to make them another way. That alternative process can be slow, and it may even result in an unhealthy accumulation of toxic molecules.

Meanwhile, as you wait for your body to create more ATP, you will still be in a recovery mode. That’s why you may still feel sluggish, stiff or sore even after you’ve rested for a while. Some cells make ribose quickly. Others – including cells in your heart and muscles – make it very slowly because they are designed to preserve glucose. But when you supplement with ribose, your body will be able to quickly rebuild the depleted ATP and you’ll recover from exercise much faster. You also won’t fatigue as quickly, so you may be able to train longer and harder.

3. Bioenergy Ribose is the only ribose that is affirmed Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). By using Bioenergy Ribose, you will have the benefit of using the world’s premier distributor of D-Ribose while also ensuring that it is not considered “adulterated” for failure to comply with the U.S. FDA.

4. Bioenergy Ribose is patented. Any product containing ribose and designed for increasing or replenishing energy, alleviating soreness or cramping, building lean muscle mass, improving athletic performance or any other application covered by our patent portfolio, must contain only Bioenergy Ribose.

5. Ribose helps lower the glycemic load. Sure it tastes sweet, but it won’t cause blood sugar spikes.

Team Ribose athletes teach Denver TV viewers how to train and eat like Olympians

August 8th, 2013
Bennetts Denver

Professional athletes Greg and Laura Bennett work out for a living, and revealed to Colorado’s Best host Joana Canals that their top fitness secret is Bioenergy Ribose. These Team Ribose members, who have competed in the Olympics, Ironman and World Cup competitions, were at KWGN-TV in Denver to share their training and nutrition tips with viewers. They explained that they add Bioenergy Ribose in their morning coffee and take it again before bed each night to help their muscles to relax and recover. “It keeps the battery going all day long,” commented Greg.

Ribose is a five-carbon sugar that our bodies naturally make and use in producing energy molecules (ATP). These world-champion athletes understand that when we push our bodies to their limits, demand for ribose may outpace our ability to make more of it.

The Bennetts also reminded viewers that nutrition is the body’s fuel, and the right nutrition helps you get the most from your training. Their meals include egg whites, turkey, chicken, fish and avocado. They also discussed why they sometimes eat gluten-free foods.

The Bennetts recently announced that they have qualified for the Ironman 5150 (Des Moines, Iowa, September 1st) and 70.3 (Las Vegas, September 8th) World Championships. Qualifying for these events was a priority for each of them for 2013. Laura will also make her full Ironman debut at the North American Ironman Championships (Mont-Tremblant, Canada) on August 18th.

Bioenergy Ribose Booth #4440 is a hit at the IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo, going on through tomorrow in Chicago. Our product prototypes – including chewy granola bars, fruit chews, whey protein balls and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, are flying off the trays! And food professionals from around the world are complimenting us on the cold, refreshing ready-to-drink tangerine orange energy beverage.

Also, a big thank you to the folks at Good Cacao for providing samples of its new superfood chocolate bars (almond, banana and peppermint flavors) made with Bioenergy Ribose. Everyone loves them!

On today’s agenda: Bioenergy Ribose was a sponsor of this morning’s IFT Fun Run & Walk, benefitting Feeding Tomorrow undergraduate and graduate food science scholarships. Kudos to our sales manager for sports nutrition supplements Michael Crabtree, who laced up his running shoes to represent Team Ribose after learning that Greg and Laura Bennett would be unable to attend the event because of flight delays. Michael is a certified personal trainer, strength and conditioning specialist, and nutritionist.

Socian network concept

Our Team Ribose members are traveling the world! Just as many of us, including elite triathletes Greg and Laura Bennett, gather in Chicago for the Institute of Food Technologists Annual Meeting and Food Expo, rowing champion Susan Francia will be competing as one of the favorites in the Samsung World Rowing Cup III in Lucerne, Switzerland! Susan won gold and set a world record (5:54.17) in the heat in the eight at the 2012 Samsung World Rowing Cup II. We know she’ll have a remarkable showing in this year’s event. Good luck Susan! We are rooting for you!

Meanwhile, our newestTeam Ribose member Billy Demong will be in the midst of a challenging three-week trip that includes an annual race in Steamboat Springs, CO followed by a ski jumping camp in the Black Forest of Germany. He will then travel to France where he will ride in the Alps for as many as seven hours a day, which follows the Tour de France for several stages.

Team Ribose will also be represented during next month’s Fi South America, taking place in sunny Sao Paulo, Brazil. Bioenergy Life Science Sales Manager Michael Crabtree will be in attendance with our parent company Chengzhi Life Science booth #S57. Fi South America and Hi 013 are expected to attract more than 11,000 food professionals from more than 50 countries. We look forward to meeting with many of our international customers, and building stronger partnerships with our distributors during this event.

Just as Bioenergy Ribose helps everyone from elite athletes to busy moms and 9-to-5’ers maintain their energy, the industry side of the equation is also sustaining strong momentum. There is strong and growing interest in formulating with Bioenergy Ribose because it delivers what the public is seeking: faster energy recovery and better energy reserves without crashes, jitters and other undesirable side effects.
