Autumn is a busy time here at Bioenergy Life Science. We are gearing up for some major industry events, preparing to announce something new for anyone interested in how ribose can help with energy maintenance and muscle recovery, and our Team Ribose athletes are stepping up their training in anticipation of the Olympics and other world games.

Now is a good time to reflect on five things we’d like you to know about ribose, whether you are a food and beverage formulator who is interested in including Bioenergy Ribose in your products, an athlete looking to add ribose to your training arsenal, or simply someone who wants to understand how ribose might be able to satisfy your energy needs.

1. Ribose is natural. Every cell in our body makes ribose. Ribose is the rate-limiting compound in the production of energy compounds called Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP), which are like fuel for our cells. ATP provides us with the energy to run our bodies. It releases energy much like burning wood releases heat (energy) as its carbon bonds break. Our bodies are great at recycling. Each ATP molecule in our bodies gets used up and regenerated about 10,000 times a day.

2. Supplementing with ribose may help you reach your fitness goals. If your body is rapidly using your stores of ATP (for instance when you go for a jog or shovel snow) and it doesn’t have enough ribose on hand to replenish its energy compounds, then it’s got to make them another way. That alternative process can be slow, and it may even result in an unhealthy accumulation of toxic molecules.

Meanwhile, as you wait for your body to create more ATP, you will still be in a recovery mode. That’s why you may still feel sluggish, stiff or sore even after you’ve rested for a while. Some cells make ribose quickly. Others – including cells in your heart and muscles – make it very slowly because they are designed to preserve glucose. But when you supplement with ribose, your body will be able to quickly rebuild the depleted ATP and you’ll recover from exercise much faster. You also won’t fatigue as quickly, so you may be able to train longer and harder.

3. Bioenergy Ribose is the only ribose that is affirmed Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). By using Bioenergy Ribose, you will have the benefit of using the world’s premier distributor of D-Ribose while also ensuring that it is not considered “adulterated” for failure to comply with the U.S. FDA.

4. Bioenergy Ribose is patented. Any product containing ribose and designed for increasing or replenishing energy, alleviating soreness or cramping, building lean muscle mass, improving athletic performance or any other application covered by our patent portfolio, must contain only Bioenergy Ribose.

5. Ribose helps lower the glycemic load. Sure it tastes sweet, but it won’t cause blood sugar spikes.

What foods are naturally rich in ribose?

For sustained energy levels and improved exercise recovery, here’s why it’s important to either supplement your diet with Bioenergy Ribose or choose foods and beverages fortified with ribose.

Ribose is a naturally occurring substance that is made in our cells. Unlike the lycopene in tomatoes, or the resveratrol found in red grapes, significant concentrations of ribose are not found in any foods. When our supply of ATP – the starting point for all cellular energy – is depleted through such things as strenuous exercise or stress, the only way to boost your ribose levels is by supplementation.

Eating a typical candy bar won’t do the trick. Whereas most sugars (fructose, sucrose and glucose) only fuel energy turnover, Bioenergy Ribose drives energy maintenance and recovery by actually making energy compounds and keeping them in muscle cells.

The good news is that ribose is already popular in an array of beverages, snacks (including chocolate bars) and supplements, a trend that industry insiders say is expected to grow. Even though it is sweet, you can consume it with the confidence of knowing that it will not raise your blood sugar. It also reduces the need to use other types of sugars in food and beverage formulations.

You’ll be able to spot products made with 250 mg or more of Bioenergy Ribose per serving by the extra functional claims they make on their packaging, which are supported by extensive clinical testing. These include:

• Speeds energy recovery

• Increases energy reserves

• Rebuilds ATP when depleted in heart and muscle tissue

• Maintains healthy energy levels in heart and muscle tissue

• Regenerates energy

• Reduces onset of muscle cramping and soreness

Patented Bioenergy Ribose is FDA GRAS affirmed, Kosher- and Halal-certified, allergen-free and non-GMO.

Major food companies have approved Bioenergy Ribose

Thumbs up

Whereas some functional ingredients are only available in a limited number of foods and beverages – and are only beginning to earn the trust of major food companies – patented Bioenergy Ribose appears on the “approved supplier list” maintained by many major food companies. That’s in great part because it is manufactured to rigid standards. It is also FDA GRAS-affirmed.

Bioenergy Ribose is also versatile, lending itself to many different food and beverage applications. For example, it is Kosher- and Halal-certified, allergen-free and non-GMO. Benefits to enjoying products made with Bioenergy Ribose include:

• It helps maintain energy in your muscles during exercise or exertion. Whether you have a strenuous job, you spend your days chasing after a toddler, or you are training for athletic competition, Bioenergy Ribose helps to supply energy when you need it.

It improves the production of energy compounds when depleted. You may have more energy to accomplish tasks, even if you only have time for short breaks in an otherwise long work day.

• It drives energy maintenance and recovery. Have you ever sat down after strenuous activity, and felt as if you never wanted to get back up again? That’s your body telling you that it needs more time to re-charge its batteries. Bioenergy Ribose will help shorten that recovery time.

• It makes energy compounds and keeps them in muscle cells. When you need access to energy, your muscles are more likely to be ready.

• It has a negative glycemic index. Yes, this really is a mildly sweet, naturally occurring sugar that will not send you on that blood sugar rollercoaster ride!

Why continue to feel mid-morning sluggishness or suffer from afternoon energy slumps? Products made with Bioenergy Ribose help to fight fatigue and provide you with natural, sustained energy throughout the day.

Chicago TV news viewers learn about benefits of D-Ribose

Bioenergy WLS

ABC 7 News (WLS in Chicago) recently featured a segment on natural energy boosters. Anchors Linda Yu and Sylvia Perez welcomed holistic pharmacist Sherry Torkos, who described better ways to get energy and named a number of alternatives to sugary products including green tea as well as foods and supplements fortified with D-Ribose. Torkos explained that ribose works at the cellular level to provide sustained energy and aid muscle recovery. She commented that products made with D-Ribose are used by Olympic athletes because of their intense physical activity, but may also be used by the average person for their work outs as well as by people coping with daily fatigue who want to boost their energy reserves. She ran out of time before she could also mention that Bioenergy Ribose has a negative glycemic index and does not raise blood sugar levels like most sugars. It is Kosher certified, Halal, allergen free and non-GMO.

What is ribose, and how does it work?
