Another amazing elite athlete has joined Team Ribose! 2010 Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist Billy Demong reports that he is already seeing the benefits of adding Bioenergy Ribose to his fitness regimen as he prepares for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. As a Team Ribose member, Billy will also appear in future Bioenergy Ribose ads and at many of our events.

“I was turned on to Ribose through friends who had taken the product, and knew some of the incredible testimonials of other endurance athletes including Greg and Laura Bennett and Olympic Champion Susan Francia,” Billy says. “I started taking the product several weeks ago which is perfect timing as we are in a huge volume base-building phase and recovery from all of the endurance training and strength sessions is critical. I’ve noticed a remarkably shortened turnaround time between finishing long hard sessions and feeling recovered to go again. I have an enhanced ability to work harder day after day with each day starting off feeling fresh and ready. In the past week alone I’ve biked, run and skied over 250 miles with over 40,000 vertical feet of climbing, lifted weights three times for two hours and raced a 75-mile road race and I’ve only had one day off!”

With a career on the snow of more than 15 years, Billy has produced some staggering numbers and memorable moments as America’s best-ever Nordic combined skier. Nordic combined is a rigorous winter sport in which athletes compete in both cross-country skiing and ski jumping.

In addition to his Gold and Silver Medal Performance at the 2010 Olympic Games (where he was elected by his fellow Team USA athletes to be the Flag Bearer at the Closing Ceremony), he is already a four-time Olympian, a 21-time World Cup Medalist (nine of which are gold), a record-setting nine-time U.S. World Team member and an eight-time U.S. National Champion.

An avid cyclist, Billy finished second overall in the High Uinta Classic Stage Race from Kamas, Utah to Evanston, Wyoming.

Watch for Billy to give some exciting reports as a member of Team Ribose. “I’m very excited to utilize the resources of the US Ski Team’s sport science to test and quantify some of the benefits to Bioenergy Ribose for my training and recovery through daily strength and fitness monitoring including isometric push tests, jump power, VO2 max, Lactate Threshold and daily heart rate monitoring,” he says. “I want to use these results to share with other people and athletes the benefits of proper planning and monitoring of training and nutrition.”

Just taking a breather

The ribose revolution has begun! From the people who make the ribose-fortified foods and beverages that help us keep up with our active lifestyles, to all those who consume these products, we’re all part of an exciting trend. Store shelves will soon be stocked with even more brands that are less reliant on stimulants and more reliant on natural ingredients such as Bioenergy Ribose to help maintain energy, reduce fatigue and recover faster.

Who is Team Ribose? You are! By choosing to consume – or formulate a product with – Bioenergy Ribose, you become a member of our rapidly growing team. Team Ribose members include elite athletes preparing for their next competition, busy parents trying to keep pace with their children’s schedules, business people who have found a way to overcome that afternoon slump, college students needing to stay focused and alert in class, food and beverage manufacturers who add ribose to their delicious formulations, and retailers who make room for ribose-fortified products on their store shelves.

Did you know …

• Patented Bioenergy Ribose is the only ribose that can legally be used in the U.S. for foods, beverages and supplements?! Bioenergy Ribose is the subject of 24 issued and pending patents in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Japan, China and Australia.

• Under new Food and Drug Administration regulations, every energy drink ingredient must carry a Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) designation. Bioenergy Ribose is the only GRAS ribose and affirmed so by the US FDA. Therefore, if an energy drink contains ribose, it must be Bioenergy Ribose.

Bioenergy Ribose is the same ingredient used in the extensive body of clinical research on which all of the patents – and claims you see on product packaging – are based.

Energy drinks: The advantages of combining Bioenergy Ribose and caffeine

Energy drink cans

Are you one of those people who just can’t function until they’ve had their morning cup of coffee? Join the crowd! About 90 percent of Americans consume caffeine daily. In addition to coffee, tea or cola, energy drinks made with caffeine are growing in popularity. So it may surprise you to learn that caffeine does not produce energy. It acts as a stimulant. Here’s why combining ribose and reasonable doses of caffeine may be a logical synergy.

Caffeine stimulates the brain’s cortex, stimulating the body’s ‘fight or flight’ stress response and increasing adrenaline levels. This causes us to temporarily feel more alert, less drowsy and in a better mood. (Who hasn’t known someone who spurns conversation until they’ve finished their first cup of coffee?)

But when caffeine’s effects begin to diminish and those levels of adrenaline decrease (the half-life for caffeine in healthy adults is about five hours), we may start to feel fatigued and possibly even a little depressed. Some of us may try to counteract these feelings by reaching for more caffeine. Consuming too much caffeine may lead to sleep disorders, increased heart rate, as well as feelings of nervousness, headaches, occasional lightheadedness, and the “jitters.” In some cases, it can even exacerbate stress.

This is why Bioenergy Ribose may be an ideal complement to caffeine, and offer a real advantage when included in energy drinks. Ribose enhances ATP recovery following stress without significant adverse effects. It also enhances muscle performance and increases tolerance to stress. Studies have also found that ribose may enhance sleep quality and duration, and may improve vitality, social outlook and mental awareness.

It makes sense that beverage formulas featuring both ingredients should produce the combined benefits of ribose and caffeine, while ribose also helps to mitigate some of caffeine’s less desirable effects. The result may be energy products that give us that boost we crave plus enhanced sports performance, and that are better at reducing the energy drain and other unwanted effects we might feel as the result of a caffeine “crash.”
