The best power nutrient for re-charging your body’s batteries

While there are plenty of professional athletes and die-hard fitness advocates who take Bioenergy Ribose regularly, many other ribose fans don’t fall into one of those categories. They include baby boomers who want to maintain their energy levels throughout each day. Maybe you’re a baby boomer whose energy levels seem to diminish with each passing year. And there are the weekend athletes who are looking for ways to minimize the stiff, sore muscles that plague you every Monday morning.

If Wednesday night league bowling results in Thursday morning muscle fatigue, consider taking ribose before you go to bed, and adding it to your coffee the following morning. By driving the process that replenishes ATP and other energy components in these cells, ribose helps to shorten recovery time, and to reduce cramping and soreness.

Perhaps you’re a morning person, and you’re looking for a way to maintain your energy so that you’re not hitting the vending machine every afternoon. Supplementing your diet with ribose may be just the help you need to steadily push right past those slumps, without the peaks and valleys associated with sugary or heavily caffeinated energy products.

For even better energy maintenance and muscle recovery, stay on a Bioenergy Ribose regimen (about 3 grams, twice daily) for two weeks. Track your energy levels. Rate your muscle stiffness and soreness. See if you’re able to start increasing your exercise tolerance.

We want to know about your experiences with Bioenergy Ribose. How many milligrams do you take each day? What benefits have you felt? Share your stories on our Facebook page or tweet about them!

Five things you should know about ribose

Autumn is a busy time here at Bioenergy Life Science. We are gearing up for some major industry events, preparing to announce something new for anyone interested in how ribose can help with energy maintenance and muscle recovery, and our Team Ribose athletes are stepping up their training in anticipation of the Olympics and other world games.

Now is a good time to reflect on five things we’d like you to know about ribose, whether you are a food and beverage formulator who is interested in including Bioenergy Ribose in your products, an athlete looking to add ribose to your training arsenal, or simply someone who wants to understand how ribose might be able to satisfy your energy needs.

1. Ribose is natural. Every cell in our body makes ribose. Ribose is the rate-limiting compound in the production of energy compounds called Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP), which are like fuel for our cells. ATP provides us with the energy to run our bodies. It releases energy much like burning wood releases heat (energy) as its carbon bonds break. Our bodies are great at recycling. Each ATP molecule in our bodies gets used up and regenerated about 10,000 times a day.

2. Supplementing with ribose may help you reach your fitness goals. If your body is rapidly using your stores of ATP (for instance when you go for a jog or shovel snow) and it doesn’t have enough ribose on hand to replenish its energy compounds, then it’s got to make them another way. That alternative process can be slow, and it may even result in an unhealthy accumulation of toxic molecules.

Meanwhile, as you wait for your body to create more ATP, you will still be in a recovery mode. That’s why you may still feel sluggish, stiff or sore even after you’ve rested for a while. Some cells make ribose quickly. Others – including cells in your heart and muscles – make it very slowly because they are designed to preserve glucose. But when you supplement with ribose, your body will be able to quickly rebuild the depleted ATP and you’ll recover from exercise much faster. You also won’t fatigue as quickly, so you may be able to train longer and harder.

3. Bioenergy Ribose is the only ribose that is affirmed Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). By using Bioenergy Ribose, you will have the benefit of using the world’s premier distributor of D-Ribose while also ensuring that it is not considered “adulterated” for failure to comply with the U.S. FDA.

4. Bioenergy Ribose is patented. Any product containing ribose and designed for increasing or replenishing energy, alleviating soreness or cramping, building lean muscle mass, improving athletic performance or any other application covered by our patent portfolio, must contain only Bioenergy Ribose.

5. Ribose helps lower the glycemic load. Sure it tastes sweet, but it won’t cause blood sugar spikes.

Saturday Evening Post feature mentions ribose for sustained energy

September 3rd, 2013
Saturday Evening Post

Saturday Evening Post Medical Editor Wendy Braun recently interviewed popular author and board-certified nutritionist Jonny Bowden, PhD, CNS, to get his recommendations for powering through your days. The article, Six Energizers from Dr. Jonny Bowden, lists Bowden’s tried-and-true tips for having enough energy to enjoy all of your activities.

Bowden (aka The Rogue Nutritionist) is a nationally known expert on weight loss, nutrition and health. His simple, straightforward approach to wellness makes him a sought-after guest on TV and radio. So we were thrilled when, after narrowing his energy tips down to just six, ribose made the cut.

“I play tennis eight to nine times a week, without a day to relax and re-boot,” he says in the article. “I take Bioenergy Ribose to replenish my ribose storehouse.”

Bowden’s other tips involve sleep, avoiding a carbohydrate overload in your diet, choosing energy bars that contain a sufficient amount of protein, snacking on the right foods before and after a workout, and sipping the certain beverages throughout the day.

Achieving third-party recognition from a publication as important as the Saturday Evening Post is quite an honor. The Saturday Evening Post has been in publication for nearly 300 years, and is the oldest magazine in the United States. Its editorial content is reinforced with an advisory board of renowned experts in their fields.

The Jonny Bowden interview by Wendy Braun first appeared on the magazine’s website. A longer article, including more information about ribose, will appear in the print version to be published this month.

Back-to-school energy for parents

If you have school-age kids, you may be bracing yourself for another hectic year of chauffeuring them to and from soccer or band practices and other activities. Your kids may be busy, but it’s you who needs the energy! And you don’t need it just once in a while. You need to maintain your energy levels all day long, often late into the evenings. Bioenergy Ribose is a great way to keep your batteries powered up.

Bioenergy Ribose helps parents counteract the energy drain of everyday life with more natural, more prolonged and sustainable energy. Your morning cup of coffee or the candy bar in the afternoon may give you an initial energy burst, but be cautious about high-caffeine and high-sugar energizers because they can act as stimulants and can cause an eventual crash. They may also interfere with your ability to get restorative sleep at night. Bioenergy Ribose also helps your muscles relax so you’ll sleep better too. (Did you know that it takes more energy to relax a muscle than it does to contract it?)

Unlike most sugars (fructose, sucrose and glucose) which fuel energy recycling, Bioenergy Ribose drives energy maintenance and recovery by actually making energy compounds and keeping them in your muscle cells. Bioenergy Ribose also has a negative glycemic index and does not raise blood sugar levels like most sugars.

Bioenergy Ribose has undergone extensive clinical testing, and has been proven effective as a functional ingredient by:

• Providing faster energy recovery

• Increasing energy reserves

• Building ATP in skeletal and cardiac tissue

• Maintaining healthy energy levels in heart and muscle

• Regenerating energy

Other energy tricks for parents:

• Minimize the amount of energy-draining processed foods in your diet.

• Sip on green tea to get caffeine without the jitters. It also contains an amino acid that can help calm your nerves.

• Make sleep a priority, not a luxury. Your body and mind both need time to rejuvenate.

• Keep yourself in good shape by squeezing in exercise, even if it’s 10 minutes at a time. Jump on the exercise bike while you’re waiting for your kids to finish their homework. Or get up 10 minutes earlier and take the dog for a walk. It all adds up. Strive for a total of at least 30 minutes, four times a week.

And remember, by adding Bioenergy Ribose to your daily routine this school year you may finally have the energy to enjoy some of your own favorite activities too!

Here’s why you’re going to see more products containing Bioenergy Ribose

Growing numbers of consumers report that fatigue and the drain of everyday life are general problems in their lives. They want more natural, more prolonged and more sustainable energy, rather than energy stimulants, which can cause an eventual crash. Bioenergy Ribose may be an ideal complement to caffeine. The advantage to energy drinks that contain both ingredients is that caffeine decreases fatigue, increases alertness and elevates mood while ribose helps make energy and higher sports performance

Bioenergy Ribose, which has a slightly sweet taste and no bitter aftertaste, is more than just another type of sugar. Unlike most sugars (fructose, sucrose and glucose) which only fuel energy turnover, Bioenergy Ribose drives energy maintenance and recovery by actually making energy compounds and keeping them in muscle cells. It also has a negative glycemic index and, unlike most sugars, does not generally raise blood sugar levels.

Functional food and beverage manufacturers are sitting up and taking notice. Because it is simple to incorporate, and blends easily with other ingredients and flavors, watch for Bioenergy Ribose to appear in a very wide variety of products including:

• Breakfast cereals and bars

• Snack and meal-replacement bars

• Baked goods (cookies, brownies and muffins)

• Fruit chews and roll-ups

• Dairy items (yogurt, pudding and milk shakes)

• Chocolates and confections

• Energy drinks and shots

• Protein shakes

• Rehydration drinks

• Flavored/fortified waters

• Powdered beverage mixes

• Teas and coffees

You’ll be able to spot products made with 250 mg. or more of Bioenergy Ribose per serving by the extra functional claims they make on their packaging, which are supported by extensive clinical testing. These include:

• Speeds energy recovery

• Increases energy reserves

• Rebuilds ATP when depleted in heart and muscle tissue

• Maintains healthy energy levels in heart and muscle tissue

• Regenerates energy

• Reduces onset of muscle cramping and soreness

Oh, and one more bonus to using Bioenergy Ribose? It reduces the need to use other types of sugars in food and beverage formulations.
