Bioenergy Life Science, Inc. Professional Commentary:
“If D-Ribose is a sugar, why doesn’t it raise blood sugar level?” This frequently asked question can be answered simply by replying, “Because it is a five-carbon sugar, not a six-carbon sugar.” And the difference is striking!
D-Ribose is of vital importance to many activities of the cell. It provides the backbone of the most important molecules in the body, such as ATP, the “energy currency” all cells need to function normally. Through the eons of evolution, D-Ribose has become the foundation for the molecules that produce and regulate cellular activity.

Study Purpose:
Thirty percent (30%) of the U.S. population is comprised of individuals born between the years 1946 and 1964, the so-called “Baby Boomer” generation. Often, the daily demands of this generation limit exercise opportunities, leading to deconditioning, undesirable body mass index values and down-regulated energy production pathways. This combination of physical attributes perpetuates inactivity and contributes to the fatigue often experienced by this population.
D-Ribose, a naturally occurring pentose carbohydrate, improves the de novo synthesis and salvage of cellular energy compounds, including ATP. By stimulating the purine nucleotide pathway and contributing to a healthy cellular purine pool, D-ribose helps preserve and restore the cellular energy supply. Studies have shown that by this mechanism, D-ribose supplementation increases cellular energy, reduces fatigue, and improves heart function in patients with ischemic heart disease and/or chronic heart failure1,2; reduces muscle pain and improves quality of life in patients suffering fibromyalgia3; and in a healthy normal population, accelerates the resupply of cellular energy following high-intensity exercise, thereby relieving delayed onset muscle soreness and improving exercise performance4.
